Bloedel Conservatory is a domed lush paradise in Queen Elizabeth Park atop the City of Vancouver’s highest point.
Over 120 free-flying exotic birds, 500 exotic plants and flowers frolick within its temperature-controlled playground.
Timbrado and Roller Canaries sing in chorus accompanied by the exotic calls of the Turaco, the Rosella parrot, the Laughing Thrush and a myriad of other birds to serenade the dome. A variety of macaws and parrots, including Green-winged, Hahn’s Dwarf and Blue and Gold Macaws; African, Amazon, Eastern Rosella, and Eclectus parrots and a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo will say ‘hello’ and entertain with their antics. Also not to be missed are the brightly coloured fantastic pheasants who will delight visitors of any age.
Be sure to collect the pamphlet at the start displaying the various birds, even some with names, which detail their unique characteristics.
I spent a really enjoyable 45 minutes circling the one-way path several times and talking to the birds, some of whom squawked back. Overall, I found it to be a very family-friendly and educational way to spend an afternoon.
