Restaurant Series: Palate Kitchen

We were really excited to try this contemporary cafe and restaurant by Pallet Coffee Roasters. Palate provides guests with an innovative menu at the famous Jameson House in the heart of West Hastings.

I felt very chic in the upscale interior with a warm ambience and friendly and attentive staff. It really is a pleasing atmosphere for a special celebration and gathering with girlfriends.

The dining room features two upper mezzanines on opposite ends of the room along with seating on the main level. It is very spacious, has beautiful paintings and light fixtures, as well as wide windows allowing natural light.

I really enjoyed the mascarpone hotcake, with maple syrup, berry mascarpone, seasonal fresh berries and mixed seeds. It was a unique brunch item, and was fluffy and divine. The sweet and tangy berry mascarpone, fresh fruits, edible flowers and maple syrup at the bottom all elevated the already tasty and thick pancake, which had a cake-like texture.

Overlooking downtown with a Van Gogh espresso martini. My friend enjoyed her martini, which I found rather unique.

My friend enjoyed The Fjord, Gravlax salmon with whipped cream cheese, avocado, mixed greens, crispy and pickled shallots, pickled radish on sourdough, with additional scrambled eggs.

The aesthetic and flavours were on point. Everyone enjoyed the food, including palate tiramisu with pallet coffee espresso, mini hot cake with white chocolate and berries, and the filling and generously portioned eggs benedict with BBQ pulled pork and a side of roasted potatoes.

I would recommend coming to this modern and bright restaurant for brunch, high tea, happy hour or dinner. It is a charming spot hidden away from the hustle and bustle of downtown to enjoy good conversations and food.
